![]() ![]() The Tigers have lost seven straight games and fall to 2-10 with the loss to the Buffaloes. Five different players scored in the game, with Finegan and Huwa carrying the scoring workload in the second half. He would take 21 shots and finished with 21 points and eight rebounds to lead the team in the loss. One bright spot for the Tigers was Finegan and his ability to create space in the paint on offense. “We try to score more than we can in a single possession at times.” “When we start to get down and turn the ball over, you can tell we try to force things,” Stumpf said. The quick shots hurt them and the Buffaloes capitalized to go up by as many as 16 before getting the 12-point win. With the lead in double figures, the Tigers started to force up some shots to try and start a rally in the fourth. “We were turning the ball over and not taking care of it,” Stumpf said. A couple big shots also helped the Buffaloes score 17 points in the quarter and gave them a 41-30 lead entering the fourth. In the third quarter, the momentum started to drift for the Tigers.Ĭaliche began forcing more turnovers with their ball pressure and started to get rewarded with easy looks off of steals. Caliche led the entire second quarter and looked to be pulling away, but a late 3-point shot from Huwa and two free throws from senior Shane Finegan kept the Tigers within two points at the half 24-22. The Tigers were able to hang with the fast pace by Caliche as both teams traded the lead five times in the first quarter. He also wanted his team to play fast instead of trying to slow down the Buffaloes early. To find a better matchup and spark from his team, Stumpf changed his starting lineup versus the Buffaloes, inserting freshman Devon Harshman in the starting five and bringing senior guard Cody Huwa off the bench. Caliche is well known for playing at a fast pace and pressing at any moment against their opponents. Since taking over the Wiggins program, Stumpf has tried to revive the Tigers with a similar style of play from the Buffaloes. “It’s not something I would say I like doing, that’s for sure.” “It’s definitely different,” Stumpf said. ![]()
